Alexis Cloutier founded Cloutierville. He built the town on his Plantation, which was later owned by Kate Chopin and was the Kate Chopin House and Bayou Folk Museum. The town was incorporated in 1822.
Other historical sites in the town include a circa 1900 bank and St. John Catholic Church and cemetery.
